En nuestro laboratorio estamos interesados en estudiar las bases moleculares de varias enfermedades genéticas, generando cambios en decisiones celulares y finalmente fenotipos o manifestaciones clínicas. Muchas de estas patologías pueden ser estudiadas mediante modelos animales que recapitulan alguna parte de sus manifestaciones de forma directa o indirecta . Entre las enfermedades que estudiamos, se encuentran las de acumulación lisosomal, como la de Niemann-Pick tipo C. Esta enfermedad presenta una notable neurodegeneración, además de afectar otros órganos en pacientes muy jóvenes. Otro grupo de patologías que estudiamos es el cáncer y su diversidad en cuanto a tipos celulares y orígenes embriológicos.
Nuestro foco se encuentra en tratar de entender la señalización, a través de genes, proteínas y moléculas pequeñas, para aliviar manifestaciones de estas enfermedades.
